Biography

Dr. Anchalee Avihingsanon, MD, PhD, is a specialist in HIV/AID and infectious diseases with more than 18 years of experience in HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, and viral hepatitis research in resource-limited settings. She currently serves as Director of HIV-NAT, Thai Red Cross AIDS and Infectious Diseases Research Centre (AIDSID) in Bangkok, Thailand, and as Clinical Research Site Leader for TRCARC (site 31802) within the NIH-funded Advancing Clinical Therapeutics Globally (ACTG) network. Her research portfolio spans multicenter international, regional, and national clinical trials on HIV, TB, viral hepatitis, influenza, COVID-19, mPox, and other infectious and non-communicable diseases. She has led studies on comorbidities, frailty, neurocognitive function, STIs, HIV prevention, HBV functional cure, aging, pharmacokinetics/pharmacodynamics, and novel therapies. Beyond trials, her work includes implementation science, test-and-treat studies, qualitative research, and cohort investigations to strengthen real-world health outcomes. Internationally, Dr. Avihingsanon has served as ACTG Regional Representative for Asia, member of the ACTG Scientific Advisory Committee, and consultant to the World Health Organization (WHO) on global strategies for HIV, viral hepatitis, and STIs. She was also a member of the WHO Guidelines Development Group for HCV. In Thailand, she plays a central role in shaping health policy, serving on multiple national expert panels and committees covering HIV/AIDS management, antiretroviral therapy, universal health care, TB, latent tuberculosis and hepatitis. She is also deeply engaged in academic mentorship, supervising and examining master and PhD students locally and internationally.
