Ethical dilemma in drug development: access to new antibiotics in areas of needs
Biography
As an Infectious Diseases physician, lecturer, and researcher at Universiti Malaya, my work centres on conducting advanced research through randomized controlled trials, with a focus on improving treatment strategies for infections caused by both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. I am particularly passionate about optimizing antimicrobial therapy in critically ill patients by leveraging pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic principles to improve clinical outcomes. In addition to my academic and clinical roles, I serve as a member of the Medical Research and Ethics Committee (MREC) and participate on international trial steering committees, including multinational adaptive platform trials—further highlighting my commitment to advancing evidence-based medicine and ensuring the highest standards of patient care and research integrity.
