Biography
Present Position: Full Professor of Infectious Diseases at the University of Modena
and Reggio Emilia. Director, Clinic of Infectious Diseases, Azienda Ospedaliero- Universitaria Policlinico, Modena, Italy.
She has been working in the field of HIV infection since 1988. Concerning the scientific activity, she has published more than 620 papers in international, peer-reviewed journals with an H-index of 83 (font: Scopus; according to Google Scholar, H-index=89) and presented data and chaired sessions in all main National and International Conferences on HIV/AIDS and ECCMID. She is a member of the scientific committee of EACS Conference, HIV Glasgow Conference and Italian Conference on HIV (ICAR). She actively participates the Scientific Board of Icona, COHERE, Cascade. In the last 10 years, she in addition to her HIV interest, she is also involved in bacterial infection and infection control studies. She has been Chair of the ESCMID Group on infections in the elderly. Her activity focused mostly on infection control and antimicrobial stewardship, together with treatment of MDR bacteria and she has published several articles on these topics either with her group or in collaboration with National and International groups. She is a member of the governing board of SIMIT (Italian Society of Infectious Diseases) since 2019 and she coordinates the INSIEME project to improve infection control practices in Italy. Since 2020 until today she is doing also research on COVID19. As teaching activities, in addition to her duties as Professor of Infectious Diseases, she has taught in several international courses among which: EACS HIV advanced course, Izmir advanced HIV course in Turkey, HIV course in Nairobi Kenyatta University in Kenya, San Petersburg HIV Course and Irkutsk HIV course in Russia, Teheran and Birjan HIV course in Iran, Austrian-American Society Salzburg HIV course. She is member of the governing board of EACS (European AIDS Clinical Society) and of the panel of European Guidelines on HIV. She is member of the panel of the Italian Guidelines for treatment of HIV Infection Concerning engagement with other organizations, she is member of the Governing Council of IAS as one of the European representatives since 2018 and she is member of the Governing Council of SIMIT, Italian Society of Infectious Diseases since 2019 and since December 2023 she has become president-elected. From 2009 to 2016, she was member of the National AIDS Committee of the Italian Ministry of Health and she is again a member since 2022.
