Biography

Dr. Yohei Doi is Professor of Medicine at the University of Pittsburgh and Fujita Health University. He graduated from Nagoya University School of Medicine in Nagoya, Japan. After training in internal medicine, he joined the National Institute of Infectious Diseases in Tokyo as a staff researcher. During this period, he worked on characterization of novel antimicrobial resistance mechanisms in Gram-negative pathogens. He joined the University of Pittsburgh in 2005, where he received training in clinical infectious diseases as well as clinical and translational research and stayed on as a faculty member. Since 2017, he also serves as Professor of Medicine and Chair of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases at Fujita Health University, located near his hometown of Nagoya in Japan. He has published over 400 articles in peer-reviewed journals and has mentored over 40 students and trainees in his laboratory. Dr. Doi serves as the chair of the Gram-Negative Subcommittee of the Antibacterial Resistance Leadership Group, an NIH-funded clinical research consortium and is the program chair of IDWeek 2025. His research interest is in identifying emerging resistance mechanisms in Gram-negative bacteria and developing strategies to counter them.
